Your glutathione levels naturally decrease as you age.
As you age (starting between age 25-30), your glutathione levels naturally decrease — and that's regardless of whether or not you consume alcohol. For those who drink, this natural decline means that your liver isn’t metabolizing alcohol as efficiently as it did in your early 20s. Taking a daily dose of Cheers Protect will increase your glutathione levels over time so that your liver can process alcohol more effectively.
When drinking goes up, glutathione levels go down.
Glutathione is known as the “master antioxidant”, tirelessly working to keep your liver healthy. Consuming alcohol creates oxidation and temporarily drops your glutathione levels, making alcohol metabolization less efficient. L-cysteine is the precursor to glutathione, converting into glutathione in your body—Cheers Protect has 610mg of l-cysteine per dose. Most rehydration products contain added sugar. This is typically sucrose, which is made up of 50% glucose & 50% fructose—and fructose is gram-for-gram as hard on your liver as alcohol. Cheers Hydrate is specifically designed for people who drink, and it contains less than 1% fructose. We chose 6g of glucose anhydrous instead, as it will activate the sodium-glucose co-transport system for rapid rehydration without further stressing your liver after drinking alcohol.

Added sugar vs. zero sugar: which is optimal for rapid hydration? Added sugar products contain glucose, a necessary ingredient to activate the Sodium-Glucose CoTransport (SGLT) system for rapid hydration. However, they also contain fructose, which is gram-for-gram as hard on your liver as alcohol. Zero-sugar products are easier on your liver but don't have the glucose necessary to optimize SGLT.
